What is on this month?
Plenty, that’s what.
Gerry’s 50th party with a 1980s theme went down a storm. Not for many a year has so much blusher and big hair been seen under one roof. It was so popular that we will definitely do another one some time, and, following requests, are now working on a 1970s theme night to be held in November. We will keep you informed on that one.
Staying with this month though, we have Chard Carnival this Saturday 8th October and, for those returning from that, we have entertainment from the one and only Rockin Ronnie. Ronnie has been a consistently popular act and we are sure his wide variety of material will be much appreciated by members and visitors alike.
Last month’s Songwriter Sunday with Edd Bleach was well appreciated and, for this month’s event, we have the lovely Victoria Pearce. You may have seen this tall, elegant singer/songwriter at some of our open mic sessions, but she will be making a solo appearance with her own original songs. For a sample of Victoria’s material, go to http://soundcloud.com/victoriapearcemusic/victoria-pearce-the-trap-that-binds. We recognise that people have to get up Monday mornings, so these sessions are relatively short and finish at a reasonable time. Sunday 9th, from 9pm till 10.30.
We have a new act coming on the 15th. We have a band called the Random 45s, containing members who have been in many established bands performing in this area. A group of talented musicians with a female lead singer, they did a short spot for us at the recent Beer Festival, but this will be their first full night with us. Saturday 15th, from 9pm.
Friday 21st, being the third Friday of the month, is the date for our Big Quiz. As usual, the cost is £2.50 per person which includes a Ploughmans at the end and a cash prize is given to the winning team. The host varies month by month and this month’s quiz will be hosted by Jac.
On Saturday 22nd, we have a very popular local duo. Steve Black and Alan West are probably the most popular country/Americana act in this region and always attract a strong following wherever they perform. Their talent on guitars, coupled with superb vocals and entertaining stories are sure to be well received.
On Saturday 29th, we will be running our Family Halloween Party. We did one of these last year and the Club was packed out with adults and children enjoying the spooky atmosphere and party tunes. We will have decorations, scary food, and prizes for the best carved pumpkin and best costume (for both adults and kids). The party starts at 8pm, with music from 9 onwards.
On Sunday 30th, we have the ever popular Howl Open Mic. The Club is open all day, with the open mic on from 3pm till 5.30pm.
In the evening, we will have bingo, from around 7.30 for 8pm.
